Yesterday my 10 year old son, somehow ended up with his hand on my belly and he whipped around and said, "Oh my God, Mommy! Your abs are like steel!" And I was like, that's right, Sonny. Working out at Thrive has been a wonderful experience for me.  I have been married for more than 20 years, a mother of three 25, 22, and 5, and received the nicest compliment from my husband after three months of doing Thrive; “your bottom looks wonderful”.  In addition, I have more energy to deal with my 5 year old in the evening; I am not as tired and have more patience for the evening issues a five year old can bring on.

I recently took a six-month course of holistic nutrition counseling with Carol Hinchcliff, and I would like to offer my enthusiastic recommendation for the service.

I came to work with Carol because my doctor told me to lose weight, and I wanted to change a lifetime of bad eating habits that would no longer be sustainable as I grew older, if I wanted to maintain good health.

I had not had good luck with nutritionists in the past.  They seemed to know about the science of nutrition, but their advice always seemed so unpalatable that I would never stick with it for long.  The enjoyment of food and good nutrition always seemed in conflict.

Carol understood that I would not stick with a diet that that I did not enjoy.  She pointed out that healthy eating should be satisfying, since the body is getting what it needs.  We worked together to determine the bad habits that not only caused me to eat unhealthy food but also to pre vent me from enjoying eating as much as was possible.

She is very knowledgeable about the science of nutrition and clearly explained how the foods we eat contribute or detract from good health, also teaching me numerous recipes to put this information to practical use.  More importantly, she spent a lot of time with me figuring out which meals worked for my particular situation.  She introduced me to a range of foods and ingredients that I had either never heard of or never knew how to use.  The range of foods I cook and eat has grown substantially, as has my creativity about finding new dishes.

Carol’s approach worked for me for two reasons.  First, because we met every two weeks for six months, she was able to introduce new ideas slowly, allowing me to assimilate one new idea before moving to the next.  It also allowed us to test out which ideas worked and which didn’t.  Second, Carol took the time to get to know me so that she was able to make practical suggestions that were uniquely tailored to my situation.  She also encouraged me to come up with ideas myself so that my program is truly mine.

Several months after finishing the program, I have remained at an ideal weight and have continued to eat in a healthy way without feeling hungry or deprived.  My habits have changed so that I rarely overeat and never feel the need to eat unhealthy foods to feel satisfied.  I am grateful to Carol for helping me improve my=2 0relationship to food.

I'm so thankful that THRIVE has joined the Pelham community!  It has made exercise so convenient and I love going to the classes.  I just had a baby and am trying to get back in shape, and Danielle and Carol have both helped to increase my motivation to exercise regularly.  The classes are challenging and provide a very personalized approach, which I need to push me beyond my limits.  I'm already seeing progress in my flexibility and strength, which is amazing considering I could barely touch my toes 3 weeks ago!

I am a huge fan of both Danielle and the Core Barre method.
